PACT offers vision for shared practice model in Ohio

At a lunch-and-learn webinar hosted by PCSAO today, Director of Strategic Initiatives Mike Kenney shared results from a year-long effort aimed at developing a shared practice model for Ohio’s child protection system.

The model (updated July 2023), called Practice in Action Together (PACT), is being developed in partnership with PCSAO member agencies and system stakeholders including former foster youth, parents, resource families and academics. Several of those with lived experience — along with representatives from Trumbull, Stark, Lucas and Lorain counties — helped to present the shared practice model during the webinar.

PCSAO’s member-approved Strategic Modernization Plan first included a priority of developing such a model in December 2020. PCSAO has been using a collaborative design approach with PCSAs and individuals with lived experiences to develop a relational practice model that includes four main components: purpose, values, behaviors and outcomes. The model is designed to improve the relational outcomes among families and workers.

Beginning in 2023, PCSAO will help to facilitate a behavioral research project and implementation planning designed to embed the practice model within daily work through a cultural and behavioral approach.
